A decade (and counting!) of celebrating the BS3 community

Founded in 2011, the Bedminster Winter Lantern Parade Project celebrates the creativity, inclusivity and the wonderful spirit of BS3 by bringing together people from across all ages and walks of life to take part in south Bristol’s biggest community event.

Each autumn, we start the lantern building project.  Our experienced artists work closely with local schools and community centres across Bedminster, involving everybody from the elderly to the very young in this community festival.

And then, in the middle of winter, it’s time for us to celebrate our creativity.

All our lantern builders take to the streets of BS3, lighting up the dark with a spectacular procession of around 1,500 members of the community carrying thousands of illuminated lanterns.

Staying true to our purpose

We’ve come a long way in the past decade.  The project has grown over the years, but our purpose has always stayed the same.  We are here to to celebrate the close-knit, inclusive and supportive spirit that is BS3.

It’s what makes this part of Bristol so special.

Our team of volunteers (aka the #bemmylanterns team) are local residents who work tirelessly each year to raise the funds we need to make the project a reality.  But we can’t do it without you lovely people. Without the help of local residents and businesses the Parade wouldn’t actually be a thing.  So thank you!

Get involved!

There are loads of ways we you can get involved. If you fancy joining the team or being one of the seventy-odd volunteers we need on the day, just contact us and say hi!
